How this Condition is Diagnosed Your doctor has measured your child, asked questions about family history, and ruled out the prospect of other diseases and conditions that can affect the stature of a child.
It is believed that approximately 6,000 children in the United States have severe Primary IGFD.3
Equally important are tests to determine levels of growth hormone and levels of IGF-1 in the body. If your childs height is significantly different from other children, if IGF-1 levels are abnormally low, and if growth hormone levels are normal or elevated, your doctor may diagnosis the condition as
severe Primary IGFD. 2
While "severe" may sound intimidating, its important to remember that this term is used primarily by doctors for classification purposes. Remember that "severe" does not eliminate a bright, new prospect for help and hope.
